Artist's Statement
Animals - both domestic and farm, Windowscapes - incorporating interiors and exteriors, and the Perspectives Series comprise my painting repertoire. The Animals and Windowscapes are the result of the joyful experiences with both two and four-legged beings here on my farm in the beautiful river valley in which I live...and beyond. In the Perspectives Series (a.k.a. my Skirt & Shirt paintings), I use favorite quotes, accompanied by illustrations, that
reflect my view of what's important in the lives of 21st century women and men.
Acrylic paint, Baltic Birch punnets, vintage rubber stamps & letterpress sets, a 1924 red Underwood typewriter, a "As Seen On TV" portable sewing machine, thread and paper are the materials I use. My painting technique may appear simple, yet it is complex at times with variegated textures and intricate details upon layered surfaces.
If I can draw the viewer into my paintings, whether through expressive eyes, commentary, color or subject matter, then I believe I am doing my job well. And if someone falls in love with my animal paintings and goes running to the nearest shelter to adopt a cat or dog, or both, then I think I deserve a gold star.
